Road Gullies blocked.

Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 12:20, Thursday 8 August 2024

Sent to Norfolk County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6331765.

The function if road gullies are to be a point at which hard surface storm water runoff transitions into the drainage system.

On a road with limited provision if one or more is blocked the probability of pluvial flooding and the associated issues increases.

The gullies need to be maintained so that their hydraulic performance is not compromised.

A realistic amount of time needs to be allocated to maintenance & clearance of blockages and tree root intrusion. It’s evident that some connections need to be remade on a dig out/remake basis. The inspection & assessment needs to be made by a professionally qualified person (not less than Level 7) with relevant experience and capability and the benefit of a proper intrusive inspection survey and calculation factoring in the additional run-off from wooded area or otherwise the contributory run-off is efficaciously attenuated such that pluvial flooding reduces to a more acceptable return period of around once in five years rather than five times per year as seems current. This may require some joined up multiple agency thinking but someone with vision to lead and conclude the process and programme.

There are 22 road gulies in relevant section of the road although the alignment characteristics of the road mean that about half are relevant.. so about 11.. of these 11 about 33% are blocked or suffer reduced hydraulic function.

The current recurrence of pluvial flooding needs to be addressed.

The relevant section of road includes numbers 157 to 173.
