Foot bridge is dangerous

Reported via mobile in the Pavement Defect category by Kelly Thompson at 18:31, Fri 12 August 2022 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3750393.

Footbridge which is half for cyclists and half for pedestrians has loose coverings, exposed nails and a pothole either end of the cyclist side. This makes it dangerous to cycle over and also walk. Bridge underneath doesn’t feel stable and covering over the top distinguishing the two lanes is loose.

  • This is a busy cycle and pedestrian route. It should be repaired immediately as a temporary measure and completely replaced in the near future. When the Lennard road crossing was put in, the Riney foreman told me this bridge was going to be replaced. In January 2022!

  • 12.45 Monday 15/08 condition is even worse. This is a crucial pedestrian and cycling path (part of the National Cycling Network route 21 from Greenwich to Eastbourne). There is NO safe alternative route.

  • Footbridge is not fixed. nothing has been done.

  • By “fixed” you mean that you’ve put a sign up saying the bridge is closed and put a temporary fence across. Given there is no other appropriate route and no signs at the start of the path either end this isn’t really a solution. It’s been like this now for 2 weeks. Surely as a cycle route and a very popular walking/running route these works should be prioritised.

  • Further works are necessary to resolve the issue and have been scheduled for action.

  • Bromley can confirm that we are currently looking into this footbridge as part of a Greenwich to Kent House cycle scheme, our contractor has also been made aware of the recent assessment of the structure and instructed to prioritise the proposed remedial works.
