Crossing on London Road just after bus stop

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights & crossings problems with buttons, beep or lamps category anonymously at 20:52, Sun 12 June 2022 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3590328.

The crossing here is very dangerous and over the last two weeks there has been two near misses, both involving pedestrians with pushchairs.

Cars very often fail to stop at these lights as it crosses 4 lanes of traffic and on both of these occasions I witnessed the driver in the lane closest to the river (heading towards High Wycombe) has failed to stop whilst pedestrians were crossing. Given that the pedestrians are crossing in front of other cars it was very lucky that they didn’t cross into the lane of the oncoming car (and van on one of the occasions) as they would not have been able to stop given the speed at which cars travel across that crossing.

It may be due to visibility of the lights or the proximity of the main lights at the junction of Rayners Lane but the crossing is often ignored and unfortunately it is only a matter of time before someone suffers a serious injury. Another similar incident occurred sometime back when a group of school children and parents were almost hit by a driving bypassing those lights and failing to stop.

Speed calming measures, greater visibility or enforcement action against drivers need to be put in place there to stop serious injury.

I’m sure you will be able to measure the extent of the problem with simple monitoring of the lights/crossing.

I hope you will look into this matter and it will be put into local community group pages too so others can follow the progress as it is an ongoing issue in the area.
