The old problem has arisen again.
Temporarily, the manhole covers were removed but since they have been reinstalled, they started clonking again which every single car that is driving over them - day and night.
It’s preventing me from sleeping and during the day, focusing on my work.
Please look in to this matter and have the manhole covers fixed or even better, removed again.
Best regards Maike Plinke

Dear Mr Campbell
Thank you very much for this update regarding my enquiry.
6 weeks have passed since your inspection took place and NO changes are noticeable.
On the contrary, the situation has deteriorated considerably and I have to alter my rather timid approximation of the amount of clunks I have to endure on a daily basis.
Not only the frequency has increased but the noise level too. I am now exposed to 15-20 clunks per minute over 9 hours, meaning 10,800 clunks per day. This situation is unacceptable and I urge you to ensure that the company will be contacted again, more vehemently.
I assume you are able to verify whether they have taken any action. They must apply to the council and ask for permission for their road works and possibly ask for closure of that lane. This is something that could be established. If that has not happened, 'the culprit' has not undertaken any measures to remedy the problem.
I am looking forward to receiving a positive reply soon.
Kind regards Maike Plinke

I can advise that the offending man hole cover was inspected on 11/12/18 and an order has been raised by the Council against the responsible utility to make repairs. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide details of any proposed schedule of repairs by this utility company and would suggest that, should you not see (or hear) any improvements having been made over the course of the next 6-8 weeks, that you return to us and advise accordingly. Thank you for highlighting this issue to us. Yours sincerely
