Insufficient markings on Lane 1
Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 09:23, Thu 22 July 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2882381.
Drivers joining the motorway at Junc 3 in Lane 1 tend to move immediately into Lane 2 even though Lane 1 is empty. It needs at least one extra Straight Ahead arrows in Lane 1 much closer to the entrance to act as a reminder for drivers that the lane continues Lane 1 and is not the end of a slip road.

Thames Valley Police are now looking at this issue as it is one of the causes of middle lane hogging. A large number of vehicles joining the motorway automatically move to lane 2 due to insufficient number of straight on arrows thus leaving lane 1 emtpy
