Metal gate erected in footway
Reported via desktop in the Obstructions on pavements and roads category anonymously at 17:09, Sun 2 May 2021 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2702723.
Although this has been erected on private land it blocks access to a right of way that has been established owing to the fact that the footpath has been in continuous use by members of the public for well over twelve years. It also presents a very dangerous precedent as it creates a dead end where someone could be trapped in a fire or attacked by a dangerous individual.

I think the anonymous complainant here maybe the same person who criminally damaged the fate and tore one of the signs down. The deeds to the land there state that access as far as the gate from Me Road is solely for the residents of Merrilees Road. Prior to the installation of the gate a sign was placed at the location of the gate for over a month detailing the fact a gate was going to be erected and giving people plenty of time to register their objections. No objections were received so the complainant here clearly has not used this pathway. In that period. There was unanimous support for the gate. The “dangerous precedent “ set is frankly a joke as all the safety aspects were taken into account and the cons were greatly outweighed by the fact that this gate provides security and safety to the residents who have had to put up with crime and anti social behaviour on their land. There is CCTV along the part of the pathway that extends beyond the gate to Halfway Street The police and the council were fully supportive of the erection of the gate and all legalities were complied with
