Path/pavement/right of way extremely slippery

I have reported this issue several times over the last 25+ years but rarely has anything been done. The pavement/footpath/public right of way between Langdon Road and Blackmore Drive is extremely slippery in places. This is due to the construction of the said path which is paving stones. Over the years these paving stones have become covered with an algae type growth which when wet make the surface very slippery in places. In dry conditions the path is absolutely fine but certain areas of the path get only limited sunshine so take longer to dry out. At the moment the top section of the path as it leads down from Langdon Road has fallen leaves on it. This, coupled with the fact that path is already slippery due to algae (this area gets less sunlight due to the trees), means the surface is very dangerous. I myself fell earlier today which has now caused some lower back pain. A person older than my 53 years could have been seriously injured. I can remember in the past sections of the path being pressure washed, this has not happened for many years. Some areas around the manhole covers have now been tarmacked which to be honest the whole path needs to be. I am sorry I did not take a picture of the problem but I was in a hurry to get home as I had fallen over.

I live in Langdon Road and have fallen on this path for exactly the same reasons in the past. I, like you, hurt myself quite badly with a badly grazed knee and ripped jeans. I have a letter from B&NES dated 14th March 2018 asking me to cut back my hedge (which ironically isn't my hedge but which is council owned!) as the path was to be resurfaced 'imminently'! It would be great to see this actually done as we have been waiting for many years, like you quite rightly point out.

Thank you for your comment supporting my report, I'm sorry to hear that you also fell on this dangerous path. This is not the first time I have fallen over, I will actively try to avoid using the path now as much as possible (although my property faces the path so this is not easy!). There was a consultation about the footpath earlier this year and I highlighted the issue there as well, as follows: "...For many years the path has been in a bad state of repair. The main issue relates to the fact that it is constructed using large paving slabs. These become extremely slippery in wet weather and I have seen several people fall, including myself. Since we have lived here I can recollect the path having been cleaned with a pressure washer no more than twice. There are many old people who use the path, it can only be a matter of time before someone sustains a serious injury. The easiest solution would be to remove the paving stones and replace with tarmac, this would solve the problem and no further cleaning would be necessary. Additionally, there are hedges which are often left to overgrow and hang over the path. These hedges are I believe council owned and more often than not contain large brambles which are impossible to avoid, especially at night." I am sure that the council would want to avoid someone being seriously injured on a path which they are responsible for?

Thank you for reopening this report following my email to the council; it is much appreciated as the path is especially treacherous in wet weather and if you can get someone to jet wash it as you suggest, at least in the interim before it is eventually resurfaced, that would be good.
