Pelican crossing, on the A40 near Rayners Avenue junction, Loudwater

Despite major refits of this crossing and the nearby junction last year, no improvements were made to this very unsafe pelican crossing. It is used predominantly by children going to Loudwater combined school, yet time after time cars fail to stop when the lights are red and the children should be able to cross safely. One day this week a skip lorry sped through on red as children were about to cross. And yesterday another large industrial vehicle did the same. I have reported the details to the police. But when will the council take action? This has been an issue for years, but with the rise in traffic following the easing of lockdown it is becoming increasingly problematic again. Firstly is it not illegal to drive through red lights? So why is there no enforcement? A red light camera perhaps?? Secondly does it have to take a child being injured or worse before something is done?
