Road Drains blocked causing flooding along the road
Reported in the Blocked Drain / Gully category by John Osmond at 08:47, Tue 8 October 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1796529.
Hi, This issue was reported as closed yesterday by the County Council. It is not closed as the drains remain blocked. I hope I don't break a house rule which suggests to me that the County Council are looking at a different Burford Road, in a different Chipping Norton, in a different Galaxy. The problem remains.

You must forgive my "cynicism". I think I have reported these drains on and off for at least a year or two. I will not hold my breath but look forward to the "programmed works" emerging. I do think it is wrong to mark these points as "closed" when they are clearly not. Perhaps Fixmystreet needs another term for "works in the future"

Still not fixed, and worse, the County Councillor thought that because the gully cleaners had been through Chipping Norton, that the Burford Road drains - those heavily blocked - and that has not happened. So...not fixed - and a County Councillor who thinks it has been fixed..... you could not make it up.

I was assaulted by a blue VW 4X4 whose driver managed to find the wettest and deepest part of the "river" flowing down the eastern side of the Burford Road and succeeded in drenching me from head to foot. Alas no witnesses at 08:34 this morning. I might add that coach drivers on the school run were amazingly responsive to the issue ensuring they pulled out into the on-coming traffic to ensure I was not drenched again.... and to whom I say thank you. I really should report this to the police. I do have the vehicle registration details.

I'm told by the County Council that this drain issue may be dealt with at some point in the future - which sadly fills me with no confidence. The Councillor who represents my town tells me that "the CC are playing catch-up" with roads maintenance and "are finding it hard to get on top of issues like this".....

The County Council through their leader has indicated that any works on the Burford Road will happen at an indeterminant time in the future.
